ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY

The heart of the Laboratory is its analytical capability. The methods of analysis and the presentation of analytical data is designed to provide information of practical value. The analytical results may indicate the fertility status of a soil or a crop. The data may provide information on potential problems or it may define an existing problem.

This Laboratory deals primarily with the analysis of soil, water and plant tissue for the purpose of evaluating fertility, suitability and toxicity parameters relative to plant response.

Systems of analysis employed generally conform to accepted procedures developed through academic research. Some in-house systems have been developed. A continuing effort is made to improve both accuracy and usefulness of analytical systems. The information obtained from the analyses is used by the consultant as a guide to determine action to be taken. When values found are normal, there frequently is no requirement to alter procedure. Where values are high or low, corrective action may be indicated.

Selection of appropriate analyses may be simple and straightforward where certain information is known to be required. It may be more difficult to select an appropriate area of investigation when attempting to solve a particular problem. The professional staff can assist in selection of an appropriate analytical strategy to resolve specific problems.
